About GK2A

01. Development of GK-2A(GEO-KOMPSAT-2A)

In comparison with COMS(COMMUNICATION, OCEAN AND METEOROLOGICAL SATELLITE), the GK-2A launched on December 5, 2018 is available for diverse observations owing to its 16 channels from previous 5 channels. In total, 52 types of meteorological products will be made based on this. GK-2A is available for observing the entire sectors in 10-minute interval and this makes speedier monitoring of severe weather phenomena for reducing meteorological disaster. In addition, high performance meteorological sensor(AMI) provides more precise observation. Korean developed space environment monitor strengthened our capabilities of space weather observation.

02. Ground broadcasting service of GK-2A

KMA/NMSC have established high performance system to process the huge data from GK2A. By means of the satellite mounted broadcasting function, huge real-time processed data, all channel data in original resolution(Ultra high rate information transmission, UHRIT), channel data same with that of COMS(High rate information transmission, HRIT) and the offshore meteorological information(Low rate information transmission, LRIT) for ships will be transmitted to the users in East Asia.

03. WEB based satellite data service

KMA/NMSC plan to provide information in various fields to the users through WEB, OpenAPI, FTP, DCPC.
